Abstract
Many learning difficulties faced by students stem from their alternative conceptions, usually inadequate ones, which lead them to the non-acceptance of different structures other than those they deal with. In the field  of graphical representation activities  there is utilization of transformations whose extent to which they relate to the represented object is varied. This brings difficulties to the spatial perception. Bearing in mind the importance that the learners’ alternative mental models may have to the educational practice, this study aimed for understanding and establishing a possible existing analogy between the transformations that occur on the sphere of geometrical models (geometries and forms of graphical representation) and the constitution of human mental models.  Methodologically, it was searched for comprehending how the transformations in these two fields are developed to, next, establish comparisons among their procedures. The conclusion is that it is important to understand the processes of transformation with the invariants held by each transformation in order to understand the students’ mental models indicating the ways for them mastering the theoretical models of the geometry paradigm.
Keywords: Geometrical transformations, invariants, representation systems, spatial perception.
