Resumo
Uma obra de arte ou de design é um produto de um ou mais membros de um tecido social, num dado momento histórico, que pode fornecer subjacentemente instruções sobre sua investigação. O próprio objeto, a seu modo, instrui sobre o próprio método de abordá-lo. Por outro lado, corre-se um grave risco se não levarmos em consideração os diferentes contextos de sua produção. Se a obra se situa num tempo mais ou menos distante, não deveremos nos esquecer que por mais que busquemos o olhar desse passado nunca nos desvencilharemos deste nosso olhar do presente. Só poderá vir a ser resgatado se impregnado pelo presente. Em diálogo com outros textos já lidos, outras imagens, obras já vistas, juntamente com a construção subjacente ao texto visual, poder-se-á balizar paralelamente a emersão do sentido. Nesse imbricamento, o ato de leitura assume-se como uma performance transtextual. É neste salto de trapezista que nos arriscamos ao tentar interpretar uma obra gráfica, mais precisamente uma litografia a cores. Trata-se da obra do artista francês Fernand Léger, intitulada Os Artistas do Trapézio, datada de 1950, e pertencente ao acervo do Instituto de Arte de Chicago, USA.

Abstract
A piece of Art or design is a product of one or more members of a social tissue, in a given historic moment, which can provide underlying instructions about its investigation. The object itself instructs us about its own method to approach it. On the other hand, we take risks if we don’t take into account the different contexts of its production. If the master piece is situated in a distant time, we should not forget that when we look for the sight of the past we will never abandon the sight of the present. We will be able to ransom the past only through the present time sight. We ought to demarcate the construction of the meaning by making a dialog with other texts already read and with other images already seen as well as master pieces already known, and by putting together the construction of the visual text. The reading act is a “transtextual” performance. We will risk ourselves as a trapeze artist when we attempt to interpret a graphic piece, more accurately a coloured photolithography. This work deals with a master piece by the French artist Fernand Leger, entitled “The trapeze artists”, dated of 1950 which belongs to the collection of the Chicago Institute of Art , USA.
