O DESIGN DO “VESTIR” E O ESPAÇO EXISTENCIAL: SUBJETIVIDADES CORPÓREAS

Abstract

The text relates to the meaning of the body as a territory occupied by the “dressing” that captures and responds to a variety of surrounding stimuli, thus revealing, in this condition, actions that produce demarcations of an existence in space. The body articulates with the design and the characteristics of the wraps, which in turn have meanings that dialogue with the contexts. The text draws attention to propositions where the dressing reveals tensions in existential space, which stem from the actions and the bodily reactions. As references in the early twentieth century, it is worth paying particular attention to the work of designer Paul Poiret (1879 – 1944), and that of artist Oskar Schlemmer (1888 – 1943), with the dress captures the significance of experimentation within that context. In the 60s and 70s, the artist Rebecca Horn, carried out actions with wraps that interfere and dialogue with the perception of the surroundings. And Studio Roosegaarde’s Intimacy project (2011 – 2012) presents a dressing that interacts with the intimate data of the body in context contemporary complexity.
