Abstract

This paper is the result of an authorial graphic production interested in evaluating investigative possibilities within creative practices. In this paper, we analyze the stages of conception and development of two projects that aim to contribute to the discussions in the field of Expanded Drawing. A drawing practice that is free from aesthetic, formal and spatial constraints and, therefore, takes on a more exploratory posture. The two projects described here focus on index symbols and seek to experiment with a poetic, subjective and authorial language. Both exercises explore creative practices guided by fluidity and lack of control. The paper is based on the discussions about the Expanded Field initiated by Rosalind Krauss. Contributions that are put in dialogue with the legacy of the Situationists, with the practices of artists such as Richard Serra and Sol LeWitt, with the critical perspective of Walter Benjamin, and Philippe Dubois’ writings on photography. The possibility of balancing acting and planning within creative practices is explored in both works and suggests clues for design processes that deal with open possibilities.

Keywords: drawing; process; project; index symbol; cartography.
