Abstract

Wheelchair selection and adaptation for people with motor disabilities is common among physiotherapists and occupational therapists. However, documentation, systematization and graphical representation of this process, although useful, is more unusual. Thus, we aimed to study the ways found by authors to systematize and graph the selection of wheelchair elements and patient positioning, to develop a practical guide that could be used in the development of other such systems. From integrative systematized searches, twelve systematizations of wheelchair positioning were gathered. Variations in complexity (high, medium and low), system (graphical representation methods) and approach (theoretical adaptation of the theme for systematization) were found. From these works we noticed some characteristics that help in the comprehension and use of the systematics as, for example, the importance of the graphical representations of the exemplification, the ordering of the elements and the graphical configuration of the method. The visual guide was then prepared based on the lessons learned. At the end of the paper, an example of visual guide application for a real situation is presented.
