Resumo

Neste artigo, examina-se o conceito de Kunstwollen, traduzido a priori por vontade artística ou formativa, desenvolvido por Alöis Riegl (1858 – 1905), filósofo, jurista e historiador de arte vienense, que teve forte influencia nas formulações teóricas de Erwin Panofsky, Ernst Cassirer, entre outros. Riegl elaborou um sistema de valores atribuídos aos monumentos, que considerava as diversas maneiras de percepção e recepção dos edifícios de acordo com o momento histórico em que estavam inseridos. Contudo, para a compreensão do pensamento riegliano deve-se, sobretudo, conhecer sua ideia de Kunstwollen, que contempla em si a intencionalidade estética de cada período da criação artística. Dentro dessa perspectiva, separar a obra de arte (Kunstwerk) do seu processo de criação seria impossível e fatal, já que Kunstwollen remete a lógica da produção artística a uma totalidade cultural que não deve ser ignorada. Para Riegl, há uma dúplice historicidade entre a formulação da obra e o momento presente de sua fruição: sugere um embate entre a intencionalidade do período da criação da obra e o que ela desperta no espectador em outro momento histórico, dotado de outra intencionalidade artística. É da tensão entre presente e passado intrínseca a Kunswollen que surge a questão dos valores em Riegl.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the concept of Kunstwollen, translated by artistic will, developed by Alois Riegl (1858 – 1905), a Viennese philosopher, jurist and art historian, which had a strong influence on the theoretical formulations of Erwin Panofsky, Ernst Cassirer, among others. Riegl developed a system of values assigned to the monuments, which considered the various ways of perception and reception of buildings according to the historical moment in which they were included. However, to understand Riegl way of thinking one must, above all, know your idea of Kunstwollen, which includes in itself the aesthetic intent of each period of artistic creation. Within this perspective, separating the artwork (Kunstwerk) of their creative process would be impossible and fatal, since Kunstwollen refers the logic of artistic production to cultural totality that should not be ignored. For Riegl, there is a twofold historicity between the formulation of the artwork and the current state of its enjoyment: he suggests a clash between the purposes of the artwork creation period and what it awakens in people in another historical moment, endowed with another artistic intentionality. It is from the tension between past and present that is intrinsic to Kunstwollen, which arises the question of values in Riegl.
