Resumo

A presente pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar características anatômicas tipográficas que facilitassem o reconhecimento das letras por discentes da terceira idade, para isso, analisou 07 materiais didáticos impressos usados no ensino da Universidade Integrada da Terceira Idade – UNITI. Os principais resultados mostraram que a tipografia que melhor atende aos discentes da terceira idade é aquela que possui o traço uniforme ou com leve/médio contraste, grandes aberturas, grandes ascendentes e descendentes; e grandes alturas-x. Constatou-se também que as letras análogas (u, n, b, q, p, d) e as letras estreitas (l, i, j, t, f) precisam de elementos que as diferenciem, assim como, as letras g, v e r precisam ter seus desenhos similares aos modelos mais usuais destas letras. Observou-se que a tipografia adequada à terceira idade deve contemplar a princípio os discentes com menor grau de instrução.

Abstract

The present research aimed to identify typographic anatomical characteristics that facilitate the recognition of letters by students of the third age, for this, it analyzed 07 printed didactic materials used in the teaching of the Integrated University of the Third Age – UNITI. The main results showed that the typography that best serves the elderly students is the one that has a uniform line or with light/medium contrast, large openings, large ascending and descending; and large x-height. It was also found that similar letters (u, n, b, q, p, d) and narrow letters (l, i, j, t, f) need elements that differentiate them, as well as the letters g, v and r must have their designs similar to the most common models of these letters. It was observed that the typography suitable for the elderly should initially include students with a lower level of education.
