REVISTA A CIGARRA: UMA ANÁLISE DA REPRESENTAÇAO DA MULHER DURANTE A SEGUNDA GUERRA MUNDIAL ATRAVÉS DO DESIGN EDITORIAL / CIGARRA MAGAZINE: AN ANALYSIS OF WOMEN REPRESENTATION DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR BY EDITORIAL DESIGN

Resumo

As revistas no Brasil foram importantes disseminadoras de discursos em massa. Nos anos 40, período da Segunda Guerra Mundial, o design gráfico e editorial eram ferramentas estratégicas para publicidades pró-guerra. Nesse contexto, as revistas femininas apresentavam em suas capas o ideal do feminino, da mulher dona de casa, mas também disposta a servir seu país. A revista “A Cigarra” explorou em suas capas de 1942 a 1943, através de fotografias, tipografias, cores e figurinos, a representatividade da mulher neste cenário. Tais elementos foram investigados qualitativamente pelo método análise documental, com base no acervo digital da publicação, disponível na Biblioteca Nacional Digital Brasil. Nesta amostra percebe-se diagramação limpa, logotipo forte e moderno, ilustrações e fotografias temáticas e influenciadas pelo ambiente militar, bem como emprego de cores relacionadas à representação da aliança entre o governo brasileiro e os Aliados.

Abstract

The magazines in Brazil were important disseminators of mass speeches. In the 1940s, World War II, graphic and editorial design were strategic tools for pro-war advertising. In this context, the women’s magazines presented in their covers the ideal of the feminine, the woman housewife, but also willing to serve their country. The magazine “The Cigarra” explored in its covers from 1942 to 1943, through photographs, typographies, colors and costumes, the representativeness of women in this scenario. These elements were investigated qualitatively by the documental analysis method, based on the digital collection of the publication, available at the Biblioteca Nacional Digital Brasil. In this sample we can see clean layout, strong and modern logo, illustrations and thematic photographs and influenced by the military environment, as well as the use of colors related to the representation of the alliance between the Brazilian government and the Allies.
