Resumo

Este estudo contribui para a formação no design de tipos por meio da reflexão sobre o resgate tipográfico enquanto atividade educacional no programa Master in Typeface Design (Type and Media), da Academia Real de Artes (KABK), na Holanda. O programa é relevante para a tipografia no Brasil pelo seu papel na formação de designers de tipos. A estrutura do curso, a relação entre o exercício e o programa acadêmico, o corpo docente e a metodologia aplicada são observados à luz dos conceitos básicos da Abordagem Triangular do ensino de artes. Também são analisados os relatórios feitos pelos alunos durante a disciplina do primeiro semestre, na qual é realizado um resgate tipográfico, com a produção de uma fonte digital. Identificam-se implicações culturais, benefícios e metodologias do resgate para o treinamento da percepção crítica, aprimoramento técnico e métodos de pesquisa para o desenvolvimento de tipos.

Abstract

This study is intended as a contribution to type design education through the reflection on type revival as an educational activity in the Master in Typeface Design (Type and Media), from the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK), in the Netherlands. The program is relevant to typography in Brazil for its role in the education of Brazilian type designers. The structure of the course, the relationship between the assignment and the academic program, teachers and pedagogy are observed in the light of the basic concepts of the Triangular Approach on arts education. The reports made by the students during a first semester discipline, in which a type revival is done with the production of a digital font, are also analyzed. The cultural implications, benefits and revival methodologies are identified for the training in critical perception, technical improvement and research methods for the development of typefaces.
