Resumo
Este trabalho mostra a importância do agrimensor no parcelamento das cidades do interior do Estado de São Paulo, durante o século XIX, bem como a maneira usada para se implantar  o traçado reticulado.

Abstract
This paper explains the great importance of the surveyor’s role in the allotment of the cities in the inner part of São Paulo State during the nineteenth century. It explains as well the way used to establish a grid pattern.
