Resumo

Apesar de sua vinculação à estética desde sua gênese, o design raramente procurou pensá-la como potência política, constituindo um ponto cego em sua exploração teórica e prática. Com vias a suprir esta carência, nos alinhamos a formas contemporâneas de problematização da teoria política, em especial baseados no pensamento de Michel Foucault. A princípio procuramos compreender historicamente como se deram as relações entre design e a política nos âmbitos prático e teórico, em uma breve revisão bibliográfica. Partindo dos subsídios teóricos de Jacques Rancière, cotejados pelas reflexões de Walter Benjamin e Terry Eagleton, situamos o potencial estético-político do design. Em seguida evidenciamos a natureza apaziguadora do design, segundo o pensamento de Gustavo Bomfim, Deyan Sudjic e Adrian Forty, imaginando o design político como radicalidade de linguagem.A partir de Roland Barthes e Bruno Latour, explicitamos as imbricações entre design, materialidades e a produção de subjetividades.

Abstract

Despite its attach with aesthetics since its genesis, design has rarely sought to think of it as a political power, constituting a blind spot in its theoretical and practical exploration. Seeking to fill this gap, we rely in contemporary ways to problematize political theory, especially based on the thinking of Michel Foucault. First we try to understand historically what relations have been established between design and politics in practical and theoretical spheres, through a short bibliographical review. Starting from the theoretical subsidies of Jacques Rancière, along with the thought of Walter Benjamin and Terry Eagleton, we identify the aesthetic political potential of design. Then we show the conciliatory nature of design, according to the thinking of Gustavo Bomfim, Deyan Sudjic and Adrian Forty, binding political design  with a radicality of language. Through Roland Barthes and Bruno Latour, we explain the interweaving between design, materialities and subjective production.
