Resumo

Este artigo trata de uma pesquisa iconográfica sobre as representações da divindade egípcia da Ma’at. Quais leituras e quais significados as imagens da Ma’at fornecem para a interpretação da cultura e da história da civilização egípcia. A Ma’at, em primeira perspectiva, é uma divindade feminina alada. Na vida cotidiana e na composição dos governos a Ma’at representa a ordem cósmica, verdade, a moralidade, a justiça, harmonia, estabilidade e equilíbrio. A Ma’at é uma divindade do antigo Egito, um ser da mitologia egípcia que aparece em uma infindável coleção de imagens referentes a monumentos, painéis de edificações e documentos de papiros. Os procedimentos da pesquisa foram um estudo dos monumentos, painéis decorativos de edificações e papiros egípcios e a seleção das imagens da Ma’at. Seguido de um estudo dos símbolos egípcios e seus significados. Finalizado pela leitura interpretativa de um conjunto de imagens onde aparece explícita ou, implicitamente, a Ma’at. Este trabalho faz parte de uma pesquisa mais ampla sobre o urbanismo africano e forma urbana africana num período de 6000 anos. Urbanismo africano e os seus 6000 anos de construção de cidades é o que levou ao estudo detalhado dos 3000 anos de cidades egípcias, dos monumentos e painéis ornamentais das edificações, dos papiros e dos significados da Ma’at nas sociedades do antigo Egito.

Abstract

This article deals with iconographic research on the representations of the Egyptian deity of the Ma’at. What readings and meanings the images of the Ma’at provide for the interpretation of the culture and history of Egyptian civilization. The Ma’at at first glance is a winged female deity. In everyday life and in the composition of governments, Ma’at represents the cosmic order, truth, morality, justice, harmony, stability and balance. Ma’at is a deity from ancient Egypt, a being from Egyptian mythology that appears in an endless collection of images referring to monuments, building panels and papyrus documents. The research procedures were a study of monuments, decorative panels of Egyptian buildings and papyri and the selection of Ma’at images. Followed by a study of Egyptian symbols and their meanings. Ended by the interpretative reading of a set of images where Ma’at appears explicitly or implicitly. This work is part of a broader research on African urbanism and African urban form over a period of 6000 years. African urbanism and its 6000 years of building cities is what led to the detailed study of the 3000 years of Egyptian cities, the monuments and ornamental panels of buildings, the papyri and the meanings of Ma’at in the societies of ancient Egypt.
