Abstract

This article investigates the role of syntax elements and informational role in the process of visual message. For this, we used the design theories focused on graphic language and the process of communicating the message visually, the observation of historical medical illustrations. The methodology highlights the logical places syntax and function, in the way of interaction between the polarities: agent representation and, through the effects achieved by the images. Thus we observe the design these accurate illustrations for the study and understanding of human body structures. As initial results, it was the contribution of those developers in the improvement of medical practice to the present day, and the informational concepts in the production of images. This study resulted in the proposal to increase the communication process, for the path involving the developer. Considerations point to the need to think about the transmission of knowledge, the perspective of design theories for images in the facilitation of learning content.

Keywords: scientific illustration; history of human anatomy; information design; visual syntax.
