A HISTÓRIA DOS PRODUTOS INDUSTRIAIS DESTINADOS AO PÚLBICO INFANTIL: ASPECTOS DA INTERFACE ENTRE ERGONOMIA E DESIGN

Abstract
The ergonomic design of furniture destined for children, besides characteristics of aesthetics and of comfort/performance, presents a significant parallel to the History of Design itself. A certain interest in proving ergonomically adequate products for children arose from the Industrial Revolution onwards, in particular the principal icons of Design in the form of children’s model: Model No 14 / Thonet; Dining-room of the Bloemenwerf house / Van de Velde; “Casa dei Bambini” / Montessori; School of the Holy Family / Gaudí, Furniture of the Bauhaus / Rietveld, Mies van der Rohe, Breuer and others, as well as various projects which had already arisen in developed countries. This conjunction of historical references is today fundamental to every intervention of ergonomics in the design of this class of product.
